Dreaming of Your 2021 Holiday?
It’s the depths of winter now. Days are short and the weather cold. Where could you escape to?
It might feel that we will never be able to get away for a proper holiday. But let’s start dreaming about the perfect place to go.
Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t been the best year for travel.
With extensive travel bans and restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it hasn’t been so easy to hop on a plane for a change of scene. But that’s no reason not to look to the future and start to plan your holidays for 2021!
No matter what sort of getaway you’re looking for, chances are that Europe has it covered. Whether you’re in need of a city break, an idyllic romantic weekend, or a great family holiday with beaches a plenty, you will be spoilt for choice.
And so it figures that over 600,000 people worldwide voted for their favourite European destination of 2020 – let’s see what came out on top!
#1 Colmar, France
Known as the French city that has it all – perfect for history buffs, foodies, music and culture lovers, there’s something for everyone here.
Did you know that Colmar is the sunniest city in France with 300 sunny days a year? We didn’t! But no wonder it’s such a destination hot spot with such glorious weather. Fear not cold weather enthusiasts, Colmar is also particularly magical as Christmas. An abundance of Christmas Market stalls and beautiful lights are perfect for a weekend to get you in the festive spirit!
#2 Athens, Greece
Known for beautiful weather, delicious food and plate smashing, you would expect Greece to come out near the top of the list.
But did you know that Athens is a city in constant evolution? With equal measure of new and old, Athens combines then and now effortlessly. Hundreds of restaurants and bars nestle perfectly alongside museums and shops, and an electrifying nightlife fires up a booming art scene.
The ideal city break for those who want to be inspired!
#3 Tbilisi, Georgia
In a world where gastronomy and culture are more celebrated than ever before, Tbilisi comes out on top. Culture, diversity, gastronomy and architecture are all celebrated here.
This is truly the place for architecture buffs – buildings from the Middle Ages mingle with neo-classical, Soviet and brand new buildings. It’s obvious that this city is respectful of it’s history but looks to the future and it’s youth. Nature wakes up here in spring and summer, and the Georgian capital is stunning, but in winter is lit up by thousands of Christmas lights.
Would you have guessed these to be voted the top three cities in Europe?
Are they your top three?
